Netherfield Colts 2 Hucknall Sports U12's Sat 4
Saturday 21st February 2004
Even though Netherfield Colts
have not secured a win on their home turf all season, Hucknall Sports still
faced a difficult game against a tricky defence that proved very hard to break
without the line flag being raised. When
a team defends by the off-side rule alone, a game that is best described as
“scrappy” is usually the result, and today the referees whistle was giving
the passing trains some serious competition.
With the home side enjoying most
of the possession in the first half, Hucknall were lucky to convert both of
their successful break chances to get a 2 goal advantage by the interval.
The first when Man-of-the-Match, Harry Beal fed the advancing Vijay
Digpal who scored on 21 minutes, and then 6 minutes later, Beal picked up a Jan
Westrik cross to scramble with the ‘keeper for the second.
Hucknall struggled to consolidate their 2 goal advantage giving away 2 soft goals early on in the second half to some eager play from the home side. Sports then had to knuckle down to some serious football, of which they are well capable, to deliver 2 more goals to secure the points. Another perfectly timed break from Digpal on 48 minutes bagged him his second of the afternoon, and Sam Sims polished off the match 2 minutes from time, though two opportunities for Sean Holmes nearly made it six, but for two equally fine saves from the Netherfield ‘keeper.
