NEWTON SECURES WIN FOR SPORTS
Hucknall Sports went to the top of the table again against their rivals Priory who are also fighting to win the championship.
Straight from the kick off both teams created chances with the first one falling to Sports when Joe Todhunter hit an 18 yards shot just wide. Priory came back and, but for a great tackle from Paul Parkinson, stopped Priory’s Sean Green going on to score. Both Sports and Priory players were doing some great hard tackling including one from Tom Walters when he won the ball, took 2 players on down the left and crossed a delightful ball to Joe Todhunter who controlled superbly to pass to Josh the demon Davenport who shot by the keeper into the net. Priory almost scored when a ball over the top got Greenie away who hit a 20 yards screamer that was going into the top corner but for keeper Jake Newbutt who stretched at full length and tipped the ball round the post. This was possibly the save of the season.
Ten minutes into the second half Priory equalized. It was a pass from the midfield to Priory’s leading scorer Greenie who after 3 attempts scored into the bottom of the net. Sports then dug deep and after only 3 minutes after Priory scored, a ball from Adam Solomon found Mitch Newton who from 20 yards out hit a thunder ball into the top of the net. Priory put pressure on Sports and with some great defending from Tom Walters, Nick Ward, Joe Todhunter, Lee Elvidge and man of the match Paul Parkinson who played the first half in a position he hasn’t played this season but played his heart out. Equally a big thanks to our keeper who, for some great goalkeeping, the score might have been different. Lastly, thanks go to both the Priory and Sports players who are fighting for the championship but the game was played without one bad tackle. So well done lads on both sides.
Sports have been drawn at home to Rolls Royce Leisure in the semi final of the trophy on the 27/03/04.
