Toton Tigers 0 Hucknall Sports U14's Sunday 2

Sunday 21st March 2004

With a gale force wind at their backs Sports set about amassing a first half lead that the home team couldn't claw back.

With Scott Rogers, Matt Peberday and Luke Thomas bossing the midfield, Ross King was on his own up front chasing through balls, unfortunately the wind was too strong for him to stand a chance.  Gaz Hayes went up front to help, trying to play a more controlled game.  At the back Paul Burgess covered acres of ground to keep a pacey attack at bay.

Sports were in charge but couldn't finish until Joe Hunt put  in a high hanging corner. With four Sports players were in the box, Luke Thomas got his head to the ball which looped into the top corner of the net.  Again Sports  couldn't capitalise and went in at half time one up.

The Sports lads had their backs against the wall for most of the second half with Martin Kirkwood, Jack Allen, Joe and Paul  superb fending of attack after attack.  Goalkeeper Alex Smith positional play was excellent and deserved the man of the match award.  Sports mounted some well crafted attack into the wind and Dom Masotano in particular was strong and gave the Toton defence a torrid time.  With just two minutes left Matt gave Luke a pass on to the right which he slid across the face of the goal only for Gaz Hayes to shoot wide from only two yards. In the final minute Luke went on a solo run which he finished himself to put the game out of reach for the home team.

This was a gutsy performance from all the team who maintain their push for second spot in the league.
