Derby City League Challenge Cup Semi Final

Playing in a strong cross wind Sports started the game much brighter with slick passing moves that led to an opening goal after just two minutes thanks to a sweet shot from Gaz Hayes.  Ripley tried their best to attack but were thwarted by inform Joe Hunt, Jack Allen and Paul Burgess.  Sports went two up thanks to Scott Rogers surge from a corner kick.

Sports were then denied a blatant penalty after a hand ball in the area and with the Ripley goalkeeper in top form Sports couldn't break down the defence again.  Ripley pulled one back on half time after a ricochet went into the net.

Into the second half, Sports played quality football against the strong wind, Matt Peberday went close, hitting the ball directly at the goalkeeper. Within minutes Matt hit a high lob but was denied by a great diving goalkeeper.

Ripley equalised after a high swirling shot was headed into the net.  The winner was pretty much the same, it proved to be Sport's downfall.  It was a truly spirited performance from Sports who can hold their heads high.
