West Bridgford A 1 Hucknall Sports U16's 2

Saturday 28th February 2004

Sports took a giant stride towards the Third Division title with a magnificent victory over fellow high flyers West Bridgford.

Sports began the game in pumped fashion, pressing Bridgford right back into their own half in the opening five. A drive from the edge of the area from Waldron went wide after good link-up between him and Cheeseman. Just minutes later, Cheeseman laid off for Waldron, who beat his man and cut back for Cheeseman to drill home.

Sports were then guilty of complacency, after a mis-communication and a sliced clearance at the back, Raynor was left stranded giving a simple tap in to an empty net.

The response from Sports was excellent. Good work from a throw-in down the left hand side from Cheeseman gave Billyeald a shooting chance, and from all of 25 yards he struck a thunderbolt into the top corner to restore Sports' advantage.

With Bridgford needing a victory to keep their title aspirations alive, it was no surprise when they came out from the break firing on all cylinders. Sports were more than ready for them though, and superb defensive work, especially from Man-of-the-Match Liam Collins meant they never troubled 'keeper Craig Raynor.

Overall, an excellent win for Sports, and one which delighted assistant manager Reno Del Rossa.
