Cotgrave U 7’s 2  Hucknall Sports U 7’s Red 4

Sunday 26th April 2004

This was the Reds first but much overdue win. Right from the first whistle the Reds showed their intent to win this match by taking control of the game and playing some excellent passing football, but challenging hard when they lost possession. Cotgrave were never allowed to settle on the ball but to their credit worked very hard.

The Reds went into half time with a much deserved two goal lead, Liam Kilcullen scoring directly from the corner and Joe Mee strongly finishing a well worked attack.

After the break the Reds continued to dominate and Liam added to his tally with a superb free kick from outside the box. Daniel Crump (man of the match) made it 4 with a much deserved goal when Cotgraves defence struggled to clear from the Reds sustained pressure.

To Cotgrave's credit they did not give up on the game and started to put some pressure on the Reds who on a hot day had started to run out of steam, and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty. Unfortunately for Cotgrave, Zac Squires was on top of his game and made a terrific save. With tired legs on the Reds side and a marvellous show of team spirit from Cotgrave, they pulled two goals back in the last five minutes and so denied the Reds their first clean sheet.

This was a game when every player should be named for their hard work on and off the ball. There was not one player who did not give 100%.

Zac Squires, Lewis Thompson, Stephen Whittley, Daniel Crump, Liam Kilcullen, Joe Mee, Richard Allen, Cory George And Daniel Long.
