Sports U7's White 1 West
Bridgford 0
Saturday 3rd April 2004
In what was the fourth encounter between these
two teams, neither side wanted to yield to the other and this produced a
workman like performance from Hucknall but not the fluent football they have
shown in previous matches.
Hucknall kicked off the first half and were soon
on the attack with some good football by the midfield, and the lone
attacker of Joe Barnes who caused the defence of West Bridgford all sorts
of trouble with his darting runs which so nearly got Hucknall of to flying
start. Both sides though began to cancel each other out with both sets of
players giving it their all, especially the Sports defence where Thomas
Shaw had his best game of the season playing the sweeping roll to perfection
to cancel out any attack that got by the midfield .With both teams cancelling
out each other to great effect it was no surprise that the score was level at
half time 0-0.
The second half opened up a little and both teams
started to play better football and it was Hucknall that got the only
goal of the game via Aaron Bond who crashed the ball into the net whilst some
of the Hucknall players were shouting for a penalty for hand ball, but the
referee played the advantage. Hucknall though created a string of chances but
failed to convert any into goals. This allowed West Bridgford to stay in the
game and they always looked dangerous on the attack but the midfield of
BenOscroft, Keiran Shephard and Thomas Howarth stood firm alongside the
defence of Andrew and Thomas Shaw. These five players along with substitute Will Onley
made sure that Emilio Monaci had a quiet game in goal, but when he was
called upon, he was alert to any danger.
Man of the match was voted for by the parents and
for his outstanding performance in defence went to Thomas Shaw.
