West Bridgford 0 Hucknall
Sports U7's White 3
Saturday 6th March 2004
In what was the sternest test so far as
how much Hucknall Sports had improved over the last few months didn't fail in
the least. The team they were playing had not lost to Sports on the last two
occasions and are regarded as one of the best teams around for the age group.
The first half started with Sports taking
the game to West Bridgford. They forced the home team into playing with almost
all of their team in defence as was Sport's early dominance. This resulted in
Thomas Howarth scoring an excellent opening goal after some forceful play by
the Sports midfield. To be fair to West Bridgford they started to put some
good football together and they showed what a good side they are but the
defence of Thomas and Andrew Shaw had possibly their best game of the season
together. They stood firm to help Hucknall go in at half time one goal up.
At the start of the second half Sports were put
under tremendous pressure by the home side but the midfield of Ben Shephard,
Thomas Howarth and Kieran Shephard along with front man Joe Barnes all helped
their defence to such an effect that West Bridgford were restricted to no
clear cut chances. When they did get a shot on goal Emilio Monaci proved what
a good goalkeeper he is in the making. Once Sports had overcome the pressure
they played some lovely flowing football that is very rarely seen at the under
7's age group. This resulted in two further well taken goals from Kieran Shephard
to make the final score 3-0.
The Man of The Match went to Kieran Shephard for
an outstanding performance but the whole team should take credit including
both subs who came on in the 2nd half and didn't put a foot wrong.
