Hucknall Sports U8's White 4
Kimberley 3
Sunday 28th March 2004
In what was a complete contrast to last weeks fine display,
Sports played what can only be described as their worst performance this year,
but still managed to come away with the victory.
At the start of the first half Hucknall started fine and they
were soon ahead through a scrambled goal from Ben Oscroft which was soon
doubled by Joe Barnes who scored via a one on one with the Kimberley
goalkeeper. Sports even managed to have a penalty saved by the goalkeeper but
from this moment onwards they got out muscled for every ball from a very
competitive Kimberley side who deserved to get a goal just before half time to
go into the break at 2-1.
The 2nd half didn't fare too well for Sports as Kimberley
battled for everything and mostly won the ball but somehow Hucknall dug deep
as they didn't want to let this years unbeaten run slip. Sports though got a
breakaway goal through Ben Oscroft to relieve some tension but this goal was
soon cancelled out by Kimberley through some very uncharacteristic sloppy
defending by and at this time you would have bet Kimberley would get the
equaliser. To Sport's credit they forced Kimberley back just long enough to
get a penalty through a hand ball by a defender .Up stepped captain Keiran Shephard
to take the kick which was saved by the goalkeeper but Keiran followed up on
the rebound to score to make it 4-2. However in the dying moments of the
game Kimberley scored a third to make the last few minutes very tense
but Sports deserved some credit as they hung on to preserve their 100%
record for 2004.
Man of the match went to goalkeeper Will
Onley as voted for by the parents.
