Cotgrave 6 a Side Football
Tournament
Saturday 15th May 2004
Under 7's White
Just to let you know that the under 7's white team
had an excellent day out at Cotgraves 6-a-side tournament with our side
reaching the final of the cup competition which unfortunately they lost to an
excellent Toton Tigers side 2-0.
Group Matches
The day got off to the best possible start when
Sports beat one of the favourites for the tournament Carlton Town 1-0. In the
2nd match against Vernon Colts, Sports played the 3 players that didn't
feature in the 1st match plus 3 others but lost 1-0. However, they all
had an excellent game. The third and final group game was against
Pegasus which we won 2-0. Having won 2 and lost 1 we came third in our group
on goal difference and had to wait to find out who we had got from group B in
the 1/4 final This turned out to be the hosts Cotgrave.
As the 1/4 final got under way Cotgrave got the
early goal but this only acted as the spur that Hucknall needed and they went
on to score 4 unanswered goals to advance into the semi final against Carlton
who they had beaten in the 1st game of the competition.
Semi Final
The semi final was a great game with both side
going close to scoring the important goal that would put them into the final
and to be fair Carlton should have scored late on in the 2nd half but for some
heroic defending by Andrew Shaw that kept Hucknall in the competition.
As the final whistle blew the rules said that each side had to take 1 player
off for the 5 minute golden goal period, Both Mark and Chris decided to take
defender Thomas Shaw off and go for all out attack and this paid off with
Kieran Sheppard scoring the goal that put Hucknall into the final.
The Final
Once we had got to the final both mark and Chris
decided that every player would get a game in the final as every player
deserved to be in it and to everyones credit they accepted this and although
we lost 2-0 everyone associated to the whites side thoroughly enjoyed the day
out and to this both Mark, Chris plus the parents and families of the boys
from Hucknall Sports White team would like to thank Cotgrave FC for putting on
a excellent tournament.
