Cotgrave U8's Tournament

Hucknall Sports Under 8s Red enter first tournament of the season.

The first game saw Hucknall against Bingham Town a side that we lost to over a year ago. From the kick off Hucknall had the bit between their teeth and within 5 minutes of the start, captain Joe Butler let one go from 20 yards which ended in the back of the Bingham Town net. However, Bingham Town were not going to just lay down and let Hucknall have it all their own way and just before half time they pulled a goal back.

The second half saw Bingham change their goal keeper for a young man that could kick the ball from one end of the pitch to the other which saw Sports having to adjust to keep him from scoring from a goal kick. Hucknall though took it all in their stride with the midfield, defence and forwards challenging for every thing on every inch of the pitch. It was a pleasure to watch especially when Tom Percival slotted a perfectly weighted through ball to Mr reliable Joe Butler to score the winner and get his second goal. Final whistle 2-1 to Hucknall.

In the second game Hucknall found themselves against Netherfield Colts. With only 5 minutes rest and giving so much in the last game they found themselves 1 down within the first 5minutes against a side that had 40mins to recover. At half time and still 1 down it was decided to take a defender off and push forward, which has worked for us in the past. This time we tried to ride our luck once to often with goalkeeper and Man of the match Tim Wheatley finding a Netherfield striker coming at him with the ball at his feet and 6 Hucknall players chasing back to cover.  Sports eventually lost 3-0 with some very upset players and two very proud Managers and a host of parents. It was a great learning curve and a great Morning.
