Carlton Town 3 Hucknall Sports U9's 7

Sunday 11th January 2004

This performance from Sports has to go down as one of their best ever against a Carlton side who, before today, had only lost one game at 7 a side in 2 years in both league and friendly matches.

Sports started the game superbly and within ten minutes they found themselves two goals ahead courtesy of goals from Jonathan Swain and another rocket shot from Fraser Flint. Carlton pulled a goal back when the referee adjudged the ball had crept over the line after a mix up in the Sports defence. Jonathan Swain restored Sport's two goal advantage straight after though just before half time.

In the second half Matt Yates came on for Kamran Kahn and he was subsequently involved in a hotly disputed penalty when the referee adjudged that he had handled in the penalty area. It was a strange decision and one that amazed the players and management  from both sides. Carlton subsequently scored from the spot kick bringing the scoreline back to 3-2.

To their credit this didn't affect Sport's and within five minutes they restored their two goal lead courtesy of Josh Henrys. Sports then turned on the style and totally dominated the game adding further goals with a bullet header from Fraser Flint, from a Henrys corner and an own goal again from a Henrys corner. Carlton pulled a goal back after a mistake in defence but Elliott Patman replied with his first goal for Sports since his transfer from Hucknall Town Harriers.

The management would like to thank all Sports players today for a thoroughly professional performance against one of Nottingham's top under 9's sides. Well Done!
