Kimberley MW Red 1 Hucknall Sports U9's 3
Sunday 14th December 2003
In a game dominated by a strong wind the divisions third and fourth placed teams put on an entertaining game for the windswept spectators.
In the first half Sports were battling against the wind and it was a real struggle to get out of their own half. They did however manage to mount some breakaway attacks with three chances falling to Alex Smith which went very close. With Kimberley's persistent pressure though they eventually managed to find the back of the net, courtesy of a sweet header from defender Sam Foster direct from a corner. As the half was nearing the end Sports managed to get back on level terms when Jonathan Swain knocked in at close range from a left wing cross.
In the second half, with the wind behind them, Sports started to dominate the game. It wasn't long before Alex Smith's persistence paid off when he hit an unstoppable low shot at the keepers near post. Sports were then awarded a penalty when Sam Foster was adjudged to have handled in the area. Josh Henrys subsequently converted the penalty giving Sports a two goal cushion.
Kimberley tried in vain to reduce the deficit but were thwarted by the Sports defence and man of the match William Hillary. In the end Sports were well worth their victory in a very entertaining match and have now moved up to third place.
