Ruddington Colts 2 Hucknall Sports U9's 2

Presidents Cup

This game turned out to be Sport's final match of the season as a draw  wasn't enough to take them through to next weeks play off against Wollaton and Kimberley.

Sports didn't start that well and it was clear from the start that Ruddington were a very good side and were well up for the game. Sports went behind after a Ruddington shot somehow managed to squirm its way under the feet of Sports keeper William Hillary.

Sports started the second half slightly better than the first and this pressure counted when Alex Smith slotted home after being put through on goal from the midfield.

Then came a decision that totally astounded the Sports players, managers & parents, and possibly the Ruddington contingent too, when the referee gave what can only be described as a highly dubious penalty. Sports defender Matthew Yates clearly made what was probably the best tackle of the game inside the box, for the referee to give a penalty from virtually the half way line. Matthew was inconsolable over the decision and reluctantly the decision was made to bring him off the field. Ruddington scored from the resulting spot kick meaning Sports had to score twice to make the playoff.

Credit though went to Sports who continued to battle for the goals with Josh Henrys equalising. Sports couldn't get the winner though as the clock eventually beat them.

On a final note the Sports management would like to thank all the players  in what turned out to be an excellent season. No silverware was won but in finishing third they managed to gain a place in next years top division for the Under 10's. In the YEL cup they only lost to Bulwell on penalties and the Presidents Cup could have been a far different story had it not been for that unforgettable decision.

Well done Sports!
