Bulwell win 3-1 on penalties
Sunday 25th January 2004
In a hard fought match, with probably two of the Y.E.L's better sides, it took penalties to decide the outcome of this U9's Y.E.L Cup tie.
Although Sports didn't dominate the game, they had on the whole, the best chances to score. However, a resolute Bulwell defence stuck to their guns defending corner after corner and when Sports did break through the Bulwell keeper kept them in the match.
Matthew Yates and Cameron Tait, who was deputising for Fraser Flint, had an outstanding game at the back together with Keeper William Hillary who mainly restricted Bulwell to long range efforts. The Sports midfield of Henrys, Swain and man of the match Keirran Clark battled away all through the game with Alex Smith up front working to try and crack open the Bulwell defence.
With it still being goalless after extra time both teams had to take five penalties and Bulwell eventually came out top winning 3-1. It was a shame that such a close game, with two excellent sides, had to be settled this way but that's cup football!
