Hucknall Sports U10's 2 Netherfield Colts Orange 0

Sunday 31st October 2004

On a lovely Autumn morning Sports took on Netherfield Colts Orange in the YEL Division 1.

Both teams played their part in a very exciting and entertaining first half which saw some good football played in completely the correct manner that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Sports looked the part going forward but all too many times the final ball was just not good enough and at nil nil Colts were always in with a shout. The ever commanding Fraser Flint and skipper Matt Yates were looking like their trusty selves at the back although the odd break away chance had to be dealt with by Elliot Patman in the Sports goal.

With a few stern words at half time by the management regarding players needing to stand up be counted, Sports took to the field in the second period adamant that this game was theirs for the taking and indeed taken it was. The lively Alex Smith was restored to his normal role of centre forward and it paid immediate dividends when a swift break by Jonothan Swain had the Colts defence back tracking and with good movement by Smith and Joshua Henrys, Swain was able to carry the ball to the edge of the box before striking a sweet shot low into the keepers right hand corner. By now a dominant Sports were attacking wave after wave and it wasn't long before a second goal came and when it did it couldn't of been a more popular goal. Alex Smith picked the ball up twenty yards out and cleverly beat three players with his quick feet before cooly rounding the Colts keeper and slotting home for his first league goal of the season. More goals were likely but Smith and Joshua Bond, with a wonderfully struck free kick, went closest and in the end Sports settled for their usual two goals having now scored two in every competitive game the season.

Alex Smith was named man of the match for his all round performance and hard work, not to mention a superb solo goal.
