Hucknall Sports U11's Sunday 8 Wilford Mavericks 0

Sunday 6th March 2005

Hucknall Sports Under 11s Sunday finally secured runners up spot in the YEL Division One Sunday with an 8-0 victory over Wilford Mavericks. Having been promoted from Division Three last season this has been a tremendous achievement by this team and a just reward for the whole squad of players that have made this possible.

Hucknall started brightly and were two up within the first ten minutes thanks to goals from Chris Goodacre and Joe Wells.Good play around the Wilford box almost produced a goal for Anthony Timmins but his shot was well saved by the keeper. However, Wilford then won a penalty only for their shot to be saved my Hucknall's Keeper and Man of the Match Harry Anderson.

This close shave seemed to spur on the Hucknall side and a tremendous shot from the edge of the box from Danny Stenson provided Hucknall with their third. Eammon Loftus was his usual industries self in midfield and his good work allowed William Spray to score the fourth. However,Spray needed no help for his next goal as a powerful run from the centre of the park saw him burst into the Wilford area and blast an unstoppable shot past the keeper to make it 5-0 at half time.

As the second half started and the pitch began to cut up badly Wilford came out strong for the first 10 minutes and the Hucknall Defence of Jack Mosedale, Jak Craig, Ryan Headington, Danny Carrington and Tony Ellis were tested on a number of occasions but were equal to the challenge as they have been all season. After the first 10 minutes it was all Hucknall though as first Joe Wells chased the ball down forcing the keeper to spill the ball for a easy tap in and then he unselfishly laid the ball through for Danny Stenson to score his second too. Ryan Warner was unlucky on a number of occasions as his great runs into the box were either saved by the keeper or his shot just slipped by the post. In the final moments Maca Hayes silky skills enabled him to slip his marker and coolly slot home to make it 8-0 on the day and a job well done by Sports.

Now they have a taste for Silverware lets hope this team produces the quality it can as next week they are in the semi final of the YEL Cup and chasing a memorable double for the season.
