Burton Joyce Blue 3 Hucknall Sports U11's Sunday 4
Sunday 31st October 2004
Hucknall Sports Under11s Sunday proved they are real contenders for the title in the YEL Division One with a gritty 4-3 victory over their bogey team Burton Joyce Blue.
Hucknall started well but fell behind to a breakaway goal from the home team. But determination and effort soon got an equalizer from William Spray as they came back strongly. Again Man of the Match Daniel Carrington was outstanding in defence ably supported by Ryan Headington as Hucknall soaked up the pressure when needed and stood firm in defence.
The second half started badly for Hucknall as they conceded a sloppy goal within 30 second of the restart. Never a team to shirk from a challenge though Hucknall fought back strongly as firstly Macauley Hayes drove a great shot past the keeper and the tireless efforts of Eammon Loftus got their just deserts as he lobed the Keeper from a tight angle to make it 3-2 to Hucknall.
A superb run from Chris Goodacre produced a 4th as he slipped past 2 players to drive a low shot into the bottom corner. With 10 minutes to go Burton did manage to score another and the scene was set for a tense finale. Tony Ellis again was impassable in defence and tough tackling Danny Stenson worked his socks off to ensure a victory.
In the final moments Hucknall were awarded a penalty for a blatant shirt pull and up stepped the normally deadly finisher Joe Wells only for him to hit it tamely wide of the goal. However it did not matter as Hucknall recorded a deserved win to lift them to second spot in the Division.
