HUCKNALL RETURN TO WINNING FORM

After the slight hiccup of dropping 2 league points three weeks ago, Hucknall Sports were back on winning form, not just against the travelling Bingham opposition, but some pretty atrocious weather conditions too.

The match started in bright sunshine, but with this much wind about conditions were set to change with little notice.  Hucknall got stuck in from the off and made the most of the tailwind advantage pressuring the Bingham defence throughout the first half.  Hucknall’s first goal came after just 7 minutes when the left side used their familiar route to goal.  A Ross Lamb run down the outside standing the ball up deep in the opponents half to square inside to Sam Sims who tacks it across to find Vijay Digpal, who is usually hovering in the middle of the penalty area, and rarely misses from such good service.

Three minutes later Harry Beal, who is more versatile than an egg anywhere on the right side of the pitch, feeds the ball through to Digpal on goal, who’s shot is spilled back to Beal who, after initiating the move from deep in his own half, is rewarded for his 40 yard run with a gifted opportunity to tuck it neatly into the back of the net.

Hucknall missed out after creating a few opportunities to widen their lead before the half time interval, and started the second half against driving wind and rain to protect their fragile 2 goal lead.  Although Bingham gave the home team plenty to think about during most of the match, they were unable to respond after the break to their wind assisted half as Hucknall had managed to do at the start of the match.  Their adjustment after the restart, proved to be a problem as many of their overshot balls were comfortably collected by the home ‘keeper.

Hucknall picked up when the rain abated to grind out a 3rd goal against a spirited opposition who remained consistently determined throughout the match.  A gutsy supported drive up the middle of the park by Sam Sims saw his efforts rewarded when a touch through from Danny Jones placed him neatly on goal for his 10th of the season and a well deserved Man-of-the-Match trophy to boot.
