JONES’ SKILLS PAY OFF
A good brisk, tight start to this away fixture, made Hucknall Sports work hard to make an initial impact on the game.
Unfortunately for the Clifton
defence, a goal mouth misunderstanding left the way open for a golden
opportunity when a Ross Lamb cross connected with the unmarked Danny Jones after
7 minutes to make his mark on the game. The
hot tempo continued, with Clifton trying the Hucknall ‘keeper on a couple of
occasions, forcing two fine saves in quick succession.
However, in the 23rd minute, the slight frame of Jones darting
into the right corner of the penalty area caught Clifton unaware a second time,
and his unchallenged cross delightfully ending up in the far corner of the net.
The right side of the Hucknall attack struck again just before half time
this time from a Ross Lamb corner connecting with the timely head of Harry Beal
to make it 0-3 at the break.
Beal bagged his second 5 minutes
into the second half, connecting with a smart exchange from Lamb and Jones at
close range. Sam Sims showed the
left side of the attack were up for some action too, when he stood up the
Clifton back line, to choose his spot and score just 4 minutes later.
Danny Jones completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute with a
fine display of cunning ball skills, slicing through the Clifton defence to
score. With the goals flowing in at
some considerable pace, the Hucknall central defender and Team Captain Daniel
Warner made what is becoming a regular appearance in the penalty area to deliver
a fine effort 8 minutes from time. Ross
Lamb corners in the 65th and 67th minute set up headed
goals for both Curtis Ball and again for Danny Jones, before delivering the
final goal of his own from a Danny Jones cross via the head of Jan Westrik to
take the final score into double figures.
Clifton All White Blues never recovered from the 2 early soft goals to stand much chance of a come back. 3 disallowed goals and a couple of rejected penalty claims, kept the Hucknall score line down to a round 10 on this occasion, with the thoroughly well deserved Man-of-the-Match honours going to the quartet goal scoring achievements and noted sportsmanship of Hucknall’s Danny Jones.
