Clifton All Whites 4 Hucknall Sports U8's Saturday 1

Saturday 5th March 2005

A bitter cold day saw Sports beaten by top of the table Clifton All Whites who needed the win to be certain of taking the league title.

The first half saw Sports not playing at their best but still managing to create a couple of good goal scoring opportunities that sadly were not taken. However, Clifton who were well up for this game and who were playing some excellent football made the -most of their possession and took the lead. Sports went straight on the attack from the ensuing kick off and after a superb pass from Liam Kilcullen; Kieran Sheppard saw his thunderous shot go over the bar. This spurred Clifton on though and they went on to find the back of Sports net three more times before the break.

The second half saw a different story with Sports deciding they were not going to roll over and die and were actually going make a real game of this match. Each and every Sports player stepped up a gear and battled for every ball and played the football they are capable of. This hard work and determination was rewarded when Kieran sweetly struck home from an excellent through ball from Dan Long. This really sparked Sports into life and with players such as Stephen Whitley, Joe Walker and Liam covering just about every blade of grass Clifton were finding out things wasn’t going all their own way. Dan Crump was his steady self at the back and Dean Harris the keeper was to deny Clifton the few chances they created with some fine saves, in fact Dean was only beaten once during the half but that was cleared away to safety by Rick Allen who had not long come on for Dan Crump. Joe Mee, Harrison Carlin and Cory George were all introduced into the game to replace Kieran, Stephen and Dan Long who had run theirselves into the ground. The players coming on picked up where their teammates had left off, again working hard and fighting for everything but with neither side finding the net again the match finished 4-1 to Clifton.

Man of the match went to Joe Walker.
