Hucknall Sports U8's Saturday 1 Rolls Royce 2
Saturday 6th November 2004
Today’s match saw local rivals in a foot of the table
clash that saw Rolls Royce, coming out the eventual winners and Sports ruing
missed opportunities.
In a match that was hard fought right from the first
whistle with both teams playing some excellent football people stood watching
might have been fooled into thinking this was a top of the table clash. With both
teams having goal scoring chances Sports should have drew first blood when they
were awarded a penalty kick when Cory George was brought down in the box. Up
stepped Sports inspirational captain Liam Kilcullen who struck the ball with
venom only to be denied by an excellent save from the Rolls keeper. In a very
even and well-contested game the first half finished without a goal.
The second half started where the first had left off but
Sports got their noses in front when Liam found the back of the net with a trade
mark free kick. Rolls continued to push though and were rewarded with a superb
equaliser from some fantastic team play. Both teams continued to battle hard and
both had goal scoring opportunities but it was Rolls who again managed to find
the net.
Man of the match for Sports was Joe “ Whack” Walker who must have touched every blade of grass on the pitch. Although every player gave his all and they can all be proud of the way they played today.
