Aslockton Cranmers 2 Sports U8's Sunday 5
Sunday 6th March 2005
Kieran Sheppard picked up where he finished off the previous week, shooting inches wide with the first move of the game. The resulting goalkick was quickly moved upfield though, ending with a corner to Aslockton. The ball into the box was comfortably dealt with by Carter Newton at the near post, before being launched straight down the pitch for Joe Barnes to attempt an acrobatic bicycle kick, that would have topped even his long list of goals scored had it gone in. Aaron Bond was the next to try but had his delicate lob over the keeper from 8 yards out begun to drop a fraction sooner it would surely have gone in., but then Joe Barnes would not have been required to pounce on the rebound off the bar and score a more typical Joe Barnes goal.
This is the same Aslockton that held Sports to a 0-0 draw earlier in the season though and they were instantly back on level terms when some shambollic Sports defending allowed Daniel Wilson an easy passage for the equaliser. Joe Barnes was in the thick of the action yet again when he was felled in the area by the home sides keeper. This gave Sports the chance to regain the lead and Thomas Howarth struck a venomous penalty straight down the centre that had the keeper diving more for cover, than for the ball. However the lead was to be short lived for a second time. This time the Sports midfield were just as guilty as the defence in allowing the talented Daniel Wilson the opportunity to score his second goal of the game.
