Hucknall Sports U8's White 9 Gedling AFC 0
Sunday 12th December 2004
Gedling were forced into fielding a stand in keeper, but the scoreline was by no means a reflection on his performance as he pulled off save after save in a top class display. After five minutes a Sports corner fell to the feet of Aaron Bond, who evaded two tackles on the edge of the box and set up midfield dynamo Emilio Monaci for 1-0. Ben Oscroft was next up, sliding the ball inches wide after a mesmerising solo run. It was Gedling's turn to press forward in search of an equaliser but Sports were well organised at the back and when the quick thinking Aaron Bond fed Kieran Sheppard on the halfway line the second goal was simply inevitable.
Gedling to their credit continued to attack in numbers but each time they came up against first rate tackling in all areas of the pitch. Thomas Howarth won the ball, with a big challenge in the middle of the park and then picked out Ben Oscroft, who rounded the keeper to put Sports three goals to the good. The fourth goal came barely two minutes later and was absolutely identical. Thomas Howarth winning good possession and Ben O finishing like a seasoned professional. Kieran Sheppard bought the half to a close with a touch of Rocket Ronnie magic when Thomas Shaw delivered a killer pass, he flicked the ball over the keeper and in under the bar for number five.
Early in the second half the Gedling keeper made three terrific saves to keep Sports at bay. Emilio Monaci was only inches away from doing a Beckham; scoring from halfway, after spotting the keeper off his line. Kieran Sheppard was on target though, securing his hat-trick after a neat move involving Conner Gilby and Ben Oscroft. Conner Gilby was soon in the thick of the action again scoring with a well controlled volley to make it 7-0. The next ten minutes saw Carter Newton impose himself on the game after spending the first half in goal. He thudded the ball against the bar from long range, with a shot that looked goal bound all the way. Undeterred, he latched onto a poor clearance to score with a well struck shot. For his grand finale he single handedly won possession, turned, and slammed the ball into the back of the net from an almost impossible angle.
9-0 sounds like a comfortable victory but Sports were forced to work extremely hard throughout, none more so than man of the match Emilio Monaci.
