Hucknall Sports U8's Sunday 6 West Bridgford 2

Sunday 16th January 2005

From the whistle it looked like Hucknall Sports wanted to put last weeks dismal performance behind them as they soon found themselves 3 up within the first 10 minutes.

The first goal came from some excellent football by Ben Oscroft linking up with Aaron Bond down the left wing who in turn played a lovely cross field ball to Kieran Sheppard who let the ball run across his body before powering a shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal, giving West Bridgford's keeper no chance at all. The second goal was almost identical but this time it was Ben and Joe Barnes linking up down the left and Joe threading the ball for Aaron Bond to score from 15 yards. With approximately 10 minutes gone the ever reliable Joe Barnes scored from a one on one with the keeper. At this point something changed in the minds of the lads and they stopped playing as a team and started to play as individuals and they lost their shape and this let West Bridgford back into the game and they scored 2 late goals in the first half.

At half time the managers gave the lads a few home truths about playing as individuals and not as a team and what might happen if they didn't start playing as a team and to their credit they took this on board.

The second half Hucknall came out and should have scored within 10 seconds of the restart as Kieran and Joe played four quick one two's which resulted in the keeper making an excellent save to deny Joe his second of the game. However, the fourth goal came soon after with Aaron scoring after a scramble for the ball in penalty area. This goal calmed Hucknall down and they started to play some good football as a team. The fifth goal was an excellent piece of goal poaching by Joe Barnes as he tapped the ball over the line after Ben O had thumped the ball against the left post from approximately 15 yards and the ball rolled across the line. The final goal was another tap in for Joe as he followed up a shot from Kieran that the goal keeper could only parry onto his post.

The final few minutes of the game were best forgotten as it faded out, but at least Hucknall showed glimpses of what they are capable of IF they play as a TEAM.

Man of the match could have gone to Joe Barnes for his 3 goals but the parents and the managers agreed it should be Aaron Bond for his total commitment in midfield and his 2 well taken goals.
