Stapleford Villa 0 Hucknall Sports U10's White 3
Sunday 5th February 2006
Hucknall Sports White kept the pressure up for the top spot in the YEL Division 3 Red with this victory.
Playing against a very sporting team Sports played some nice football with Michael South, Matthew Brierley and man of the match Joe Priestley stringing together some great passes to give Sports chances on goal despite Stapleford's six man defence. Sports had most of the play in the first half but failed to make it pay, the closest they came to scoring was when Joe Priestley hit the bar from a corner, due to some good saves by the keeper and last ditch tackles from the defenders. No goals at half time but it was not through lack of effort from the sports team.
With a change of staff at half time Sports again tried to get the lead without much joy as Stapleford had a spell of putting pressure on Sports but keeper Jack Grainger had little to do with Joe Gill and Sam Abbott controlling the Stapleford attacks. With a Sports midfield of Paice Lees, Sam Wells and Mitchell Cassidy working had Sports got the breakthrough when Joe Priestley was on the end of a Sam Wells pass to fire home over the keeper’s head. Sports pushed for more and got it when Paice Lees fed Joe Priestley on the left who cut into the box and fired home under the keeper. Sports had more chances but could not find the net again because Stapleford worked very hard at keeping them out.
A win keeps Sports on track and with a tough test next week Sports need to relax and get their shooting boots cleaned ready for action.
