Hucknall Sports U10's White 5 Beeston Centurions 1

Sunday 6th November 2005

Sports were in their version of the FA Cup this week in the 2nd round of the Notts FA Shield but they continued with their winning ways against Beeston Centurions from a league above themselves.

Sports started well and worked hard on a very wet pitch to get the chances to take the lead, which they did after Michael South played a lovely through ball for Charlie Miller to run on to and score past the advancing keeper. Sports kept at Beeston and went further ahead when Charlie Miller collected a loose ball, beat two players and fired past the keeper from just inside the area. Beeston though started to win more of the ball and forced Sports to defend with both Sam Abbott and man of the match Matthew Brierley making some fine tackles.  Beeston however did pull a goal back when Sports failed to clear the ball and they rolled the ball home through a mass of players. 2-1 at half time.

The second half started as the first finished with both teams trying to gain the advantage. Slowly, Sports took control and the lead when a Paice Lees run at goal was blocked but his prod of the ball forward found Sam Wells in open space to tap the ball home. Sports then put on the pressure with corner after corner and attack after attack and made it four when Joe Hewitt picked up the ball from a clearance and had his shot charged down by the keeper but as the ball rolled towards the goal line, which may well have gone in, Sam Wells popped up and taped it home. Sports kept the pressure on and Joe Hewitt got his goal when the goalkeeper failed to hold the ball and Joe stole it, rounded the stranded keeper and tapped into the empty net.

Again all the Sports players worked hard for this result so it’s a big well done to you all.
