Gedling Southbank Blue 0 Hucknall Sports U10's White 4
Sunday 8th January 2006
After a three week rest Sports travelled to Gedling Southbank Blue and started the New Year in fine fashion by completing their first double of the season.
Both teams started well, each battling for control of the mid field but Sports had the better chances early on when both Joe Priestley and Joe Hewitt went close with shots on goal. Sports started to pass the ball and worked chances on goal with the midfield of Matthew Brierley, Charlie Miller and Joe Priestley all going close. Sports finally got the breakthrough when a move down the right by Matthew Brierley and Charlie Miller left Joe Priestley open to feed Joe Hewitt the ball, who with a neat turn lost his marker and fired over the advancing keeper. Gedling came at Sports and after some sloppy tackles had a shot rattle the post and where unlucky not to get back on level terms. After the scare Sports looked in control and went two up just before half time when another move down the right by Matthew Brierley and Charlie Miller fed Joe Hewitt who laid the ball further left for the free Joe Priestley to run on in to the area and coolly fire under the advancing keeper.
2-0 at half time Sports came out in control and had chances to increase the score when Matthew Brierley went close with a diving header. Sports back two of Sam Abbott and man of the match captain Joe Gill never looked too troubled with the captain barking out instructions ensuring a clean sheet. Sports made it three when a long shot on goal from Joe Hewitt bounced in front of the keeper making him parry it in to the net. Sports made it four when the close control of Sam Wells fed Paice Lees on the right and his shot on goal was pushed into the air and a quick acting Sam Straw jumped to head home the ball. Goalkeeper Aaron Bradley had a gilt edge chance to make it five but fired wide with the keeper to beat.
Overall a good game in which Gedling never stopped trying but could not make headway against the stronger Sports team but deserve credit for the effort they put into the game.
