Hucknall Sports U10's White 2 Stapleford Villa 1

Sunday 16th October 2005

Hucknall Sports White maintained their 100% record with a win over Stapleford Villa.

With Villa third Sports knew it would be their biggest test so far this season and so it proved to be. From the start both teams battled for control of the game and both played some fine passing football. It was at times end to end with neither team getting many clear chances to score because both defences were closing down early. Sports though slowly became more forceful and started to keep Villa in their own half more. With this added pressure Sports had a few chances to score non-more than a Joe Priestley corner being deflected on to the underside of the bar and out. Sports finally got their reward when they won the ball in mid field and Joe Priestley unleashed a rocket that flew in to the top of the net with the goal keeper well beaten. Sports maintained the upper hand and came off 1-0 up at half time.

Sports continued in the second half  with attack after attack but Villa defended well. The Sports midfield worked hard at keeping Villa in their own half, with man of the match Mitchell (Butch) Cassidy leading the way. Sports made it two 16 minutes into the second half when Joe Priestley chased down a ball, beat the defender and forced his way into the area and shot past the keeper. Villa now pushed hard to get back into the game but they came up against captain Joe Gill and Sam Abbott who cleaned up even when being out numbered. Villa did get a late goal back when Sports let  over run them at the back and scored after a scramble.

Overall this was a good performance from Sports against one of the stronger teams in the league. They never looked like they would lose the points but we will need to work as a squad if they are to maintain this fantastic start.
