Wollaton Hall Green 0 Hucknall Sports U10's White 2
Sunday 19th February 2006
Hucknall Sports U10's White travelled to Wollaton Hall Green expecting a tough match and Wollaton did not disappoint.
From the kick off both teams put full effort in and the game became a bit scrappy. Both teams were closing down well, making it hard for Sports to pass as much as they wanted with man of the match Matthew Brierley working hard in midfield along with Joe Priestley and Mitchell Cassidy. Chances for both teams were kept to a minimum because both teams broke down attacks early with Joe Gill and Jack Grainger stopping Wollaton getting too close for Sports. Sports almost took the lead when a move down the right left Joe Priestley to cross in for Joe Hewitt who hit the ball first time only too see the Wollaton keeper make a great save and push the shot round the post. Sports took the lead when a Jack Grainger Clearance found Joe Hewitt who controlled the ball and lobbed the keeper left footed to score. Wollaton battled and just before half time almost pulled level when an unmarked player stole in for a free header from a corner only to put it wide.
The second half continued to be a battle with both teams getting men forward at every opportunity. However, Sports looked stronger as the half went on with the fresh legs of Paice Lees and Sam Wells making Wollaton defend harder, with both players having efforts on goal well saved by the keeper. Sports put the pressure on and had chances blocked by strong defending but had to be alert with Wollaton trying to attack at every opportunity. Sports finally got the second goal cushion when substitute Michael South scored the goal of the game. Michael battled in midfield and won the ball off a Wollaton player, he then went on a run at goal jinking his way past two defenders before lifting the ball over the advancing keeper with the outside of his foot into the top corner, a great goal. Wollaton continued to try and get back in the game but Sports had the better chances to increase the score but Wollaton held them out.
Sports got the three points but a very much improved Wollaton Hall Green gave them a good run. Sports are learning that being near the top is not easy and that they must be on their toes at all times if they wish to maintain their 100% league record.
