Netherfield Boys 4 Hucknall Sports U10's White 5
Sunday 20th November 2005
YEL TROPHY 1ST ROUND
The season rolls on and despite having a weeks break Hucknall Sports U10 White managed to keep the momentum going, away to higher league Netherfield Boys.
The game got off to a slow start with both teams unable to keep the ball for long. Its was a scrappy 15 minutes that saw both teams pushing at goal but not many chances happening. However, on 15 minutes, a ball cleared high into Netherfield's half by Joe Priestly fell kindly for Joe Hewitt who controlled and finished. Sports never had time to settle before Netherfield hit back with a well worked passing goal. Again both teams battled for chances but Sports's next goal came from nowhere when Joe Hewitt kicked the ball over his shoulder on the half way line hoping to start a attack only to see the keeper misjudge the bounce and the ball ended up in the net. Sports though found Netherfield at them again and let in a goal when the ball was not cleared and they fired home from close range.
2-2 at half time Sports came out full of go and within five minutes went ahead again when a Joe Hewitt corner was pushed out by the keeper to Joe Priestly who fired home. Sports made it four when Joe Hewitt tapped in from close range after some good work from Mitchell Cassidy and man of the match Sam Straw. Sports should have been safe but the defence went to sleep and some very slack marking left a Netherfield player all alone to score. The game was now end to end and a pleasure to watch and Netherfield drew level again when they got a penalty for handball, which was converted. So back at four all and the game looking like going into extra time with both teams after a winner, Sports pushed hard and after a series of throws and corners in succession they got their reward when given a penalty for handball whilst the ball was bouncing about in the box. Joe Priestly converted and this time sports held on for the win.
This match was a proper cup match, end to end and full of passion by both teams. It was a great game for the spectator but not the managers and Sports must learn from this game because next time we might not be so lucky.
