Hucknall Sports U10's White 1 Pelican Colts Red 3
Sunday 26th February 2006
Hucknall Sports White lost their 100% record in a game that left Sports black and blue.
On a pitch that was heavy from rain Sports tried to play some passing football along the wings but Pelican where quick to close them down. Sports had the best of the play but found themselves unable to match the physical side of Pelican and with no protection being offered by the referee had to try and slug it out. Sports had shots on goal from Joe Priestley, Matthew Brierley and Joe Hewitt but the new Pelican keeper was equal to what Sports had to offer. Sports went a goal down late in the first half when a Pelican attack was half cleared and the referee failed to give the shirt pull on the Sports defender that allowed the Pelican player to score.
Pelican scored again early in the second half when Sports allowed a player to run at them and poke it past the keeper. Sports continued to battle but where forced into a substitution when captain Joe Gill could continue no more after being kicked on about every part of is body. Pelican made it three when a free kick was asked to be retaken by the referee for jumping and Pelican scored off the post this time. Sports kept trying and worked hard but just didn’t get any luck until late on when Sam Straw headed in a parried shot from Matthew Brierley.
Pelican came and did a job onSports which is what we expect teams to try and do now and again from a lower place in the league, well done to Pelican, but Sports can hold their heads up because they kept going despite some very rough treatment.
