Wollaton Hall A 1 Hucknall Sports U11's 4
Sunday 9th October 2005
With
only five minutes of the match gone, Wollaton took an early lead and it seemed
that the management war cry of ‘things have got to get much better’ had fell
completely on deaf ears. But, much to the delight of all involved, the whole
team pulled up their red socks and turned in a performance worthy of a team who
can play attractive flowing football.
Sports
started to command all areas of the pitch and after fifteen minutes they got a
deserved equalizer, all be it a touch fortunate. A typically accurate Josh
Henrys in-swinging corner from the right was helped in at the near post with a
touch from a defender. Confidence grew and with men of the match William Hillary
and Ethan Tindall looking in complete control at the back, the attacks began to
flow. Great link up play between strike partners Alex Smith and Jonathan Swain
allowed Smith to make it 2-1 with a sweet finish from ten yards and within
minutes Smith helped himself to his second with a left foot hook from the edge
of the box .
In the second half a now rampant Sports applied all the pressure and were unfortunate to only score one more goal. This came when the tireless Hillary carried the ball from the half way line before slipping a pinpoint throughball into the path of Swain who calmly slotted under the keeper and rewarded his own endless running off the ball.
