Hucknall Sports U11's 2 Pelican Colts 1
Sunday September 18th 2005
After struggling in their last season of playing mini soccer Sports have stepped up into their first experience of eleven a side football and have so much to prove. After four pre season friendlies which included three wins and a draw Sports went into their opening league game last week against West Bridgford Rangers with high hopes. Unfortunately Sports came up against a very hard working side who just didn't give them any time on the ball and the end result being a narrow 2-1 defeat.
This week, at their new home at Holgate, Sports entertained newly promoted Pelican Colts and turned in a much improved performance. Sports dominated the early stages of the game and opened the scoring when a free kick on the edge of the box by new signing Ashley Johnson screamed high into the net giving the Pelican keeper no chance at all. Pelican then started to get a foothold into the game after this and were rewarded when a strong shot from outside the box sailed over the Sports keeper. Sports finished the half with an early contender for goal of the season. With lovely passing football from Sports with a move that started on the half way line, finished with Jonathan Swain slotting home low in the bottom corner. This goal really was a great team effort.
In the second half there wasn't much between the two teams and goalmouth activity was at a premium though Pelican did threaten towards the end of the game searching for an equaliser. All in all Sports did deserve the win.
