Heanor Juniors 3 Hucknall Sports U12's Sunday 1
Sunday 29th January 2006
Sports failed to copy last season’s cup exploits as they were dumped out of this year’s competition after this defeat at Heanor Juniors.
After reaching the final last year, hopes were high for a repeat performance, especially after they had beaten the host’s earlier in the season 5-1.
But missing players and illness’s took their toll, as Heanor claimed a relatively comfortable victory on a very poor playing surface.
They opened the scoring after 11 minutes with a well taken goal that stand in ‘keeper Dan Carrington could do nothing about, but the 2nd goal, 2 minutes later could have been avoided, but for some poor defending.
Sports finished the half strongly, and top scorer Joe Wells should have pulled a goal back for the visitors on 28 minutes but the ‘keeper saved well. Aston Marsh also saw an injury time effort fly wide.
Man of the Match Ryan Warner was doing his best to keep Heanor at bay at the back as Sports desperately tried to score the games next goal, but it was not to be as Heanor made it 3-0 on 43 minutes. With this scoreline the host’s could relax a little, and in doing so it gave Sports the opportunity to create some better openings for themselves. A flowing move involving Joe Wells, Chris Goodacre and Anthony Timmins, ended with Wells shooting straight at the ‘keeper on 52 mins, moments later Glenn Brown was unlucky to see his shot clear the bar. A consolation goal was on the cards for Sports, and after Wells had threatened the Heanor goal once again on 57 mins, he made no mistake a minute later to make the final score 3-1.
