Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 4 v Bulwell Rangers 0
Saturday 1st October 2005
Sports produce an excellent display of attacking
football and come out convincing winners of this local derby.
Right from the first whistle Sports took this game to
Bulwell Rangers keeping them penned into their own half. However Rangers
defended hard and it wasn’t until the 10th minute that Sports
finally found the back of the net. The goal came from a well-taken Liam
Kilcullen (Captain & man of the match) attempt that the Rangers keeper
initially palmed away but in the ensuing goal mouth scramble it was Dan Long who
scored on the inside of the far post. In the 17th minute after
relentless Sports pressure fullback Joe “Wac” Walker collected the ball from
a Rangers goal kick before running the ball 2/3 of the length of the pitch and
making a neat one-two with Joe Mee before firing home to make it two-nil.
After the break Sports again dominated and in the 39th minute Stephen Whitley threaded a near perfect ball through a packed Rangers defence for Mee to unleash a thunderbolt to make it three-nil to Sports. To Rangers credit they never gave up on the match and fought for everything managing to test the Sports keeper a couple of times with good counter attacks but it was to no avail. In the last minute of the game Whitley, who had a magnificent second half making life really difficult for the Rangers fullbacks was brought down in the box and then recovered sufficiently to coolly step up and blast the ball home, sending the keeper the wrong way in the process to make it four-nil to Sports.
