Gedling Southbank 1 Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 7
Saturday 3rd December 2005
A much-improved Gedling side found Sports too
hot to handle in this friendly fixture.
Sports in impressive form dominated this match
from the very first whistle and had Gedling so penned back that it was
inevitable that the goals were going to come. The first goal came from Joe Mee
who finished off a flowing Sports move that saw Joe Walker and Stephen Whitley
cut through the Gedling defence like a hot knife through butter. Sports made it
two when Daniel Long played a neat one-two with Walker before leaving the
Gedling keeper stranded with a well-driven shot. It was Long who made it three
after going on what is becoming his trademark run down the left side then
cutting in for the shot that the Gedling keeper initially saved but could not
hold and Long made no mistake with the second shot. The half ended with Sports
three to the good but had it not been for some excellent defending and some very
brave goal keeping it could have been more.
The second half started as the first had ended with Sports firmly in control and it wasn’t long before Richard Allen made it four when he scored from an insanely acute angle after beating two defenders. Sports then seemed to take their foot off the pedal and were punished with a well-taken solo effort from the Gedling striker. Sports responded well, with the goal of the day when inspirational Skipper and man of the match Liam Kilcullen launched a 25-yard exocet into the top corner. Allen made it six when he was first to react to the loose ball after a fine save by the Gedling keeper from Long. Kilcullen went onto make it seven when he struck home from a superbly delivered corner from Whitley.
This was a fantastic all round team performance by Sports that saw players playing in unfamiliar positions and every player giving his all for the good of the team. To Gelding's credit they never gave up and showed a lot of spirit in battling hard until the final whistle.
