Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 9 Kimberley MW 3

Saturday 4th March 2006

A fantastic display of total football and some clinical finishing sees Sports claim their best ever league win over a Kimberley side that have had some impressive results of their own in recent weeks.

With the Wigwam pitch in perfect condition Sports started strongly and with a flowing move of two-touch football, that was straight from the training ground Stephen Whitley opened the Sports account with a well driven strike within the first two minutes. With their tails up Sports continued to press and Whitley was on hand to finish the move again. Joe Walker was to make it three when he struck home from just inside of the box after another sweeping Sports attack. Man of the match Daniel Long who was causing Kimberley all kinds of problems down the left flank deservedly made it four, before Reegan Morris opened his Sports account to make it five. Kimberley although under pressure for most of the first half always looked a threat going forward and played some good football of their own but the half finished with Sports five goals to the good.

The second half started as the first had finished with some beautiful football being played and with Morris finding his touch in front of goal Sports were six up. Most teams would have probably buckled but not Kimberley they responded with a flowing move of their own that forced Sports Keeper Dean Harris into an outstanding double save. Sports went on the attack again but Kimberley regained the ball and gave Harris no chance to make it six-one. Morris made it seven to Sports with a well taken and much deserved hat-trick, but Kimberley were still not finished and struck back again to make it seven-two. Liam Kilcullen was to make it eight for Sports with a well-driven strike after a determined run. Much to Kimberley’s credit they still didn’t give up and took a well-taken third goal. Sports right-back Thomas Howarth went on an uncharacteristic run into the Kimberley half and his wondrous strike had everyone cheering before the realisation it had hit the side netting and leaving Howarth having to be shown the way back to his position by a team mate. Long was to complete the scoring with his second of the day to make the final score nine-three to Sports.

An excellent game of football played in a good and friendly manner with both sides playing their part. Well done Kimberley for battling to the end.
