Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 6 Gedling 1
Saturday
5th November 2005
In a friendly match Sports got back to winning ways
against a hard working Gedling side.
The opening period saw some changes to the way Sports
usually line up but they were soon playing the kind of flowing football we have
come to expect, creating several good goal scoring opportunities early on but
failing to find the back of the net largely due to some very good defending by
Gedling. Sports got the breakthrough when Daniel Long picked the ball up in
midfield and went by three Gedling players as if they weren’t there before
firing home. Sports made it two shortly after when Cory George calmly watched a
Sports goal kick bounce over him and turn quickly leaving his marker flat footed
before running 20 yards and slotting the ball beyond the sprawling keeper.
Gedling were not to be out done and after some good football they punished
Sports with a well-taken goal.
Soon after the break George was to make it three, after
some very determined work he harassed the Gedling defence into an error before
knocking the ball home. Gedling did not give up and were rewarded with a penalty
after the Sports keeper (Dean Harris) was judged to have brought down the
Gedling striker. Harris however turned from villain to hero when he calmly saved
the ensuing penalty. New signing Nathan Gull, on for George, was to make it four
when he made the most of a goalmouth scramble. The final five minutes saw
Stephen Whitley rewarded for all his hard work by bagging a brace of very well
taken goals to make the final score six-one to Sports.
On the whole this was an excellent team performance with the entire Sports squad giving it their all and playing some very skilful and flowing football.
