West Bridgford Wolves 1 Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday  1

Saturday 7th January 2006

A dark, damp and miserable start to the new year sees Sports extend their unbeaten run to six games but fail to show the kind of form they were in before the Christmas break.

Sports started the game well and dominated the opening ten minutes but as in recent weeks were unable to turn the pressure into goals. Sports always looked a threat going forward but as they strived for that illusive goal great big cracks were opening in their normally rock solid defence and Wolves took full advantage with some excellent counter attacks. When Joe Mee finally broke the gridlock with a well-taken strike in the eighteenth minute, Sports looked to be on the up and kept Wolves pinned into their own half and had it not been for some strong defending and a Keeper on fine form Wolves could have fallen further behind.

Wolves seemed to be coping better with the conditions and started the second half well and it developed into a game of attack and counter-attack but it was Wolves who were to find the back of the net when they went route one knocking a long ball over the Sports defence for their striker to finish off with confidence. The equaliser did seem to bring Sports to life and although they threw everything they had at netting the winning goal it wasn’t to be and the game finished a draw.

Sports man of the match went to Liam Kilcullen.
