East Valley Utd 0 Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 1

Saturday 8th October 2005

In a well-contested local derby, Sports gain their first away points of the season.

The first half saw both teams playing some good football, but although Sports created the lion’s share of goal scoring opportunities largely due to man of the match Daniel Long and Stephen Whitley. Also with Joe Mee failing to add to his seasons 6 goal tally neither side could capitalise and the half remained goalless.

The second half began with Sports on the attack but it took until the 41st minute for Sports to find the back of the net. The goal came after Sports captain Liam Kilcullen had made an excellent tackle in midfield then passed the ball forward to Richard Allen (on for Mee) who turned his marker adeptly and slotted the ball into the path of the marauding Long who fired the ball home. Minutes later Allen was unlucky not to score himself, after Whitley split the East Valley defence with a telling pass into Allen’s path who struck the ball well but was denied with an excellent save by the Utd keeper.

Sports keeper Dean Harris had little to do in the Sports net largely due to the excellent defensive partnership of Daniel Crump & Joe Walker. New signing Nathan Gull had a good debut when he came on for an out of steam Kilcullen.
