Moorgreen Colts 0 Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 0

Saturday 11th February 2006

A superb team performance, a thrilling game of football and Sports take a much-deserved away point but could have easily claimed all three.

Sports started this game menacingly and should have been one to the good in the first minute when Stephen Whitley crossed a telling ball into Moorgreen’s box for Richard Allen, who forced an excellent save from the Colts keeper. Moments later Whitley should have scored himself after some fabulous link up play between himself and man of the match Joseph “ Wac “ Walker. Sports continued to press hard and Walker came close to opening Sports account just before he had to come off when he hurt his shoulder when bravely challenging for the ball. Debut player Reegan Morris on for Walker slotted into Sports midfield and looked as if he had been there all season when he put Daniel Long through on goal only to see the Colts keeper pull off yet another fine save. Colts are a good side and launched some good counters but with Thomas Howarth and Liam Kilcullen looking strong at the back and Dean Harris on fine form in the Sports goal, Sports continued to the half time break in full control of this game.

Colts started the second half with all guns blazing and for the first five minutes forced Sports to defend, which they did resolutely. Daniel Crump came on for Howarth and with Harris  taking charge of his area  it wasn’t long before Sports were back in control of this game. Joe Mee on for Allen was causing the Colts defence trouble but could not find that elusive goal. Colts who were on the back foot for most of this game  got their best chance of a goal ten minutes from time when they were awarded a  penalty. However,  the Colts player squandered the chance by crashing the ball against the woodwork. Sports's then went on wave after wave of attack but when Morris struck the crossbar with a thunderous shot and Long put the rebound just wide of the Colts goal they knew it wasn’t going to be their day and had to settle for a share of the points.

A superb game that ended with no goals but a Sports team performance that any premiership side would be proud of.
