This was an epic cup-tie that saw Sports accomplish their own piece of giant killing and march triumphantly onto a place in the semi final draw.

This was never going to be an easy cup-tie for Sports, drawn away to 1st division opposition but it was Sports who came out with all guns blazing. From the Pegasus kick off “Big” Joe Mee charged in to win the ball and start a quick passing move that culminated with Mee testing the Pegasus keeper who somehow prevented the ball crossing the line. Sports, who continued to apply the pressure largely due to some excellent link up play between Stephen Whitley and Joe “Wac” Walker, were rewarded with the opening goal in the seventh minute when Whitley went down the right and forced yet another corner. Liam Kilcullen whose dead ball kicks were superb all game long delivered the perfect corner, which Walker latched onto and fired home. Sports continued to boss the first period and looked strong defensively with Kilcullen and Daniel Crump doing their jobs well, Pegasus had to be content with shooting from outside the box but the in-form Sports keeper and man of the match Dean Harris dealt with them comfortably.

Pegasus were not about to roll over and it was they who started the second half strongly and put Sports onto the back foot. Pegasus looked strong going forward and kept Sports under sustained spells of pressure but could not find the final ball as Sports defended doggedly. Sports who had given it their all in the first half and had fought to keep Pegasus at bay in the second started to look jaded and in the 45th minute were punished when Pegasus equalised with a very well taken goal after a good passing movement. It was to be the final goal of normal time.

Sports dug deep and somehow managed to find some hidden reserve of energy for it was they who started extra time the strongest and were rewarded when Mee unselfishly laid the ball off for Walker who calmly struck home his second goal of the day. This seemed to knock all the fight out of Pegasus and although they tried to push for another equaliser it was Sports who looked more likely to score again but there was to be no more goals in this game.
