Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 2 Pegasus Youth White 1
Saturday 25th March 2006
Sports were not at their best but still take all three
points in the last home match of the season.
This as the old cliché goes was a real game of two halves,
Sports went on the attack from the first whistle and virtually set up camp in
the Pegasus half, but Pegasus defended extremely well and with their keeper in
legendary form, goals were to be at a premium. Reegan Morris in central midfield
was spraying the ball left and right to Daniel Long and Stephen Whitley
respectively who both tested the Pegasus keeper. A succession of corners
delivered superbly by Morris created more chances for Joe Walker, Liam Kilcullen
and both Whitley and Long. Morris tested the keeper himself with a magical free
kick, even Sports’ last man Thomas Howarth was getting in on the action but
nothing seemed to find the net of Pegasus’ charmed goal.
However, towards the end of the half Pegasus broke swiftly and with some
skilful play finally tested Sports keeper Dean Harris who dealt with the threat
confidently. From Harris’ kick Sports put a passing move together that ended
with Morris breaking the spell to put Sports in a deserved lead.
The second half saw both sides playing better football,
Pegasus chasing the game attacked more but Kilcullen and Howarth were Titans at
the back for Sports and for a long while it looked as if it would remain 1-0 but
Pegasus with a winged move found the equaliser. Sports weren’t about to let
their hard work go to waste and after some excellent work from man of the match
Whitley and some unselfish play from Daniel Crump (on for Walker) Long made sure
of the points. Final score two-one to Sports.
In a friendly game afterwards that saw both sides playing good football man of the match went to Nathan Gull for his hard work, Sports won two- nil with both goals courtesy of Richard Allen.
