Pegasus Youth White 0  Hucknall Sports U9's Saturday 2

Saturday 26th November 2005

Sports put the agony of last week’s last minute defeat firmly behind them by taking charge and taking the points away at Pegasus.

Although Sports started this match in a subdued manner compared to recent week’s they soon had Pegasus on the back foot, winning three early corners that Liam Kilcullen put into the box menacingly for the Sports attack to force the Pegasus keeper into a string of fine saves. Sports spurred on by the early pressure seemed to move up a gear and after some sparkling link up play between Stephen Whitley and Joseph “ Wac” Walker, Walker delivered the perfect ball for “Big” Joe Mee to fire home. Pegasus tried to respond but with the defensive partnership of Kilcullen and Daniel Crump looking as solid as the great wall of China, Dean Harris, the Sports keeper must have felt like he had the day off. Sports continued to pile on the pressure and when Daniel Long went on a rampaging run down the left side of the park before cutting inside and striking a venomous shot that forced the Pegasus keeper into yet another superb save, Mee turned poacher by latching onto the loose ball for his second goal of the day.

The second half saw Sports continue to pressure but Pegasus defended hard and the Pegasus keeper who was in tremendous form kept Sports at bay. The best chances of the second half fell to Mee who narrowly fired over the bar when Whitley provided an inch perfect ball, and was denied by a superb last ditch tackle by the Pegasus defender when man of the match Walker put him through on goal.
