Hucknall Sports U9's Sunday 7 Gedling Southbank 0

Sunday 8th January 2006

The Under 9's Sunday eased their way into round three of the YEL Cup with a convincing 7-0 victory over Gedling Southbank.

Sports took the lead on 14 minutes, when Jack-Henry Williams carved out a shooting opportunity for himself on the edge of the area. Although his shot did appear to be goal bound, striking sensation Josh Pickering glanced the ball with his chest to wrong foot the keeper and claim his first of four goals in a terrific man of the match performance. Kieran Sheppard almost scored with a stunning left foot drive that thudded back off the post and in the scramble that followed Josh Pickering was odds on favourite to do what he does best and he didn't disappoint stabbing home goal number two. Sports scored a third before the interval, that was vintage Rocket Ronnie. He adjusted his sights slightly, after his previous effort to crack a thunderous drive into the top corner for a goal of the season contender.

A good run and cross from the right by the hard working Emilio Monaci provided Josh with his hat-trick goal within four minutes of the re-start. With Carter Newton off injured it was down to the Captain Kieran Sheppard to bravely don the goalkeepers top on such a cold day but this didn't stem the flow of chances from the left. Asa Shelton surged forward from fullback leaving numerous missed tackles in his wake before unselfishly squaring for Emi to provide the cool finish from close range. It was just reward for all his hard work when the player at the hub of everything Jack-Henry Williams scored the sixth goal with a good old fashioned blaster from just inside the area.  It was also his free-kick that picked out Josh Pickering in the right place at the right time yet again to score his fourth and Sport's seventh in an impressive first outing of the year.
