Hucknall Sports certainly hit the ground running in their opening game of the season.

New signing Josh Pickering looked particularly sharp up front as Sports went on the hunt for an early goal. Aaron Bond and Kieran Sheppard both carved out good chances from midfield. But it was defender Thomas 'Hot-shot' Howarth who opened the scoring with a blistering shot from well inside his own half. It caught the home sides keeper off guard and put Sports one up. Sports were playing with confidence in all areas of the pitch and were soon two goals to the good when Josh Pickering hit a sweet left footed drive low into the corner, after good work by Aaron Bond. The same two players were involved in the third goal also.  Aaron flicked on a long kick from Carter Newton in the Sports goal, leaving Josh to scramble home a rebound, after his initial shot was well blocked.

 

              The second half saw McCauley Walker making his league debut, and he was unlucky not to mark it with a goal. Hitting the bar after a doggedly determined run and going close with at least two other good efforts. Tigers were constantly looking for a way back into the game, but chances were limited as they spent long periods on the back foot. Sports couldn't turn their extra possession into goals and the score remained 3-0 at the final whistle. Man of the match could have gone to any one of about five players in a good team performance. But McCauley Walker took the award for his outstanding second half display.
