Hucknall Sports U9's Sunday 7 Beeston Centurions Black

Sunday 18th September 2005

This was, as the 7-1 scoreline suggests, a convincing peformance by the Under 9's.

Sports took the lead thanks to Captain Marvel Kieran Sheppard. He took a corner from the right hand side, then sprinted to join the scramble in the box before stabbing the ball over the line. The second goal soon followed. This time it was a real cracker of a free kick, taken from inside the centre circle by new signing Jack Henry Williams. The Beeston keeper seemed surprised to be called into action from such a distance and could do little to keep the ball out. With most of the Beeston attacks falling foul of the hard tackling Asa Shelton in the Sports defence, it seemed certain that a third goal would follow. This time it was Aaron Bond who hit the back of the net, with a stylish little chip over the advancing keeper. The half was brought to a close with another magnificent long range shot by Jack Henry, making it 4-0 to the home side.

Macauley Walker made an instant impact, as a second half substitute. His run and cross set up Conner Gilbey at the far post, who was desperately unlucky to see his shot come back off the bar. The very next attack saw the same two players combine to gift Jack Henry a tap in, for his hat-trick goal. Conner didn't have too wait to long for a goal of his own though, finishing off another good spell of passing with a cool finish low into the corner. Josh Pickering was determined to add to his brace of goals from the previous week and his persistence finally paid off. His first time turn and shot from the edge of the area made it seven nil to Sports. All credit to the visiting Centurions though, at no point did they deviate in their efforts to play neat passing football. They were duly rewarded with a late consolation goal when Sports failed to clear from a corner. Man of the match went to  hat-trick hero Jack Henry.
