Hucknall Sports U9's Sunday 4 Priory Celtic Tigers 0

Sunday 26th February 2006

With the League title already safely in the bag, the under 9's certainly weren't resting on their laurels, as they beat the Tigers 4-0.

Sports could have hit double figures but for some excellent saves from the busy Priory Celtic Keeper and at least five goal line clearances from his over-worked defenders. Aaron Bond carved out the first opening when his delightful little pass put captain Kieran Sheppard through on goal. The keeper did manage a brave block on the first effort but could do nothing to prevent the net from bulging as Kieran latched onto the rebound. Man of the match Jack-Henry Williams scorched a path from one area to the other cleverly using both his wingers as decoys on route. His well struck shot did appear goal-bound but Aaron Bond quite rightly followed his strikers instincts to nip in and make absolutely sure though. Sports were creating chances from open play as well as from a succession of dangerous corners, but the composure in front of goal seemed to have momentarily deserted the Sports forward line, until up stepped Asa "Psycho" Shelton to fire an absolute screamer from 18 yards out into the top corner, giving Sports a commanding 3-0 half time lead.

Carter Newton was tasked with keeping himself warm in the Sports goal as the home side were camped in opposition territory for almost the entire second half. Full marks to the visitors though, spurred on by the tough tackling Ciara Albas-Martin, they pressured and chased down every single attack on goal though Sport's attacking flair was being cancelled out with defensive stubbornness. Thomas Howarth tried to break the stalemate with a fantastic solo run from his own 6 yard box to within shooting distance at the other end, only to be thwarted by the feet of the Celtic keeper. Sports were finally rewarded with a fourth and final goal, when McCauley " Big Mac" Walker stabbed his shot onto the post and Conner Gilbey reacted swiftest to prod home the loose ball.
