Pegasus Youth 1 Hucknall Sports U13's Saturday 2
Saturday
24th March 2007
Sports got back to
winning ways with a well-deserved victory away to Pegasus. Eager to gain revenge
from a previous 3 – 5 early season defeat at the hands of Pegasus, Sports
started brightly and with the defence back to full strength and looking
particularly solid Sports went all out on attack.
Strong play down the
left by Sam Woodings-Finch nearly created an opening for Josh Clifton, whose
shot went wide. Sports continued to press with the outstanding Myles Bossman
again giving his marker a torrid time and a goal looked on the cards as Danny
Stenson and Clayton George took control of the midfield. The Pegasus goal keeper
was in outstanding form as he firstly denied Ryan Warner and then Woodings-Finch
whose weave runs created havoc in the Pegasus defence. Finally the break through
came as Clifton was coolly put clear and he slotted home to give Sports a well
deserved half time lead.
With Pegasus having
the advantage of the slope and a strong wind behind them for the second half
Sports stood firm and superbly, defended the long goal kicks and numerous
corners. Despite Pegasus pressure, Sports could have scored a second as two
Bossman headers failed to find the target. However, a controversial penalty
decision led to a Pegasus equaliser as Jak Craig was harshly judged to have
fouled in his area.
Jack Moore and Jason
Harris came on to add some fresh legs and Moore nearly had an immediate impact
as his through ball just reached the Pegasus goalkeeper who stopped bravely from
the on-rushing Clifton. However, Moore was not to be denied and with the clock
ticking down he thundered home a twenty yarder to send the team into raptures.
Pegasus threw
everything they had at Sports but were denied by an acrobatic save from Buster
Simpson and some superb all round defensive play.
As the whistle
sounded Sports celebrated a well deserved win against brave opposition.
Despite outstanding
performances from numerous players, Jordan Burch gained the man of the match
award for his superb defensive performance. Credit was also given to his
accomplices Jak Craig, Shane Davis and for Howard “H” Howells for one of his
best performances of the season.
